Wye Valley Brewery is delighted to announce the opening of The Pelican Inn in Gloucester.
The Pelican Inn is one of Gloucester’s heritage pubs and can trace its history back to 1679. It has been given a thorough refurbishment and now boasts an attractive beer garden.
Said Vernon Amor Managing Director of Wye Valley Brewery ‘We are passionate about pubs, we believe they play an important role in our communities as they are the outlet for our national drink, cask conditioned beer. New landlord Mike is a top notch licensee serving the best quality cask beer. We are delighted that he will be working with us in Gloucester.’
Mike Hall, who has been landlord at The Bell Inn, Leominster for seven years, will open The Pelican Inn to the public on Saturday 9th June at 1pm.

#courtlaughing, this weekend
Hereford's first comedy festival launched today at The Courtyard.
Wye Valley Brewery set up a festival bar, and stocked it with Wye Valley Bitter, HPA, Dorothy Goodbody's Golden Ale and a special #courtlaughing Festival Ale.
It promises to be a great weekend, even the weather looks set to stay. Tickets to studio acts are still available, and the Open Mic Night is free to watch on Saturday evening. If you consider yourself to be a bit of a comedian it's not too late to sign up to Open Mic Night! Contact the box office.

Wye Valley Brewery promote Real Ale for Jubilee Celebrations
To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Wye Valley Brewery will be offering free bunting to the first 60 people to order a polypin of real ale for the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.
With the nation awash in red white and blue in preparation for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations over the four-day weekend, many people have planned parties and community celebrations. What better way to toast this historic national event, claims Wye Valley Brewery, than with a glass of our national drink, locally crafted, using Herefordshire hops?
Wye Valley Brewery is well and truly into the spirit of the Jubilee. In cask, they have produced a Jubilee edition of their Dorothy Goodbody’s Golden Ale with a specially designed commemorative pump clip (which sold out at the beginning of May). Additionally the brewery anticipates strong demand for their polypins, which provide 36 pints of delicious, fresh, real ale.
To mark the occasion the first 60 polypins to be ordered for the week commencing the 28th May will all be provided with a free 5 metre length of red, white and blue bunting, essential for any Jubilee celebration.

Wye Valley Brewery Quiz Knockout Finals
On 18th March four teams battled it out for the title of Wye Valley Brewery Quiz Cup and Plate Winners.
Teams competing in the Cup Final were 'The Dog' and 'The Bell', in the plate final, teams were Hereford Owd Boys and New Inn Town.
It was a close contest and the scores were as follows:
The Dog 153
The Bell 152
Hereford Owd Boys 147
New Inn Town 129
The Dog were winners of the Cup and Hereford Owd Boys were winners of the plate.

Stop the beer duty escalator...
Every year, the beer tax escalator increases the tax on beer by 2% above the rate of inflation, thus adding considerably more pressure on the British pub, the cornerstone of many of our communities. Removing the beer duty escalator at the next budget will help keep beer more affordable and go a long way to supporting the institution that is – the great British pub.
Going to the pub is a core British tradition and so is enjoying great beer. If you want to continue enjoying your fresh pint in your local pub then it’s crucial that you support our campaign to grind the beer duty tax escalator to a halt.
If we don’t show our support for the great British pub, we risk losing more pubs and more jobs within our local communities.
